NMED Announces RFI Process
Late yesterday (January 18, 2024), the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) announced that it will be accepting a Request for Information (RFI) related to New Mexico's recently announced strategic water supply.
At COP28 in Dubai, the New Mexico Governor announced the Administration's intent to offer advanced market commitments to purchase treated produced water and brackish water to develop a strategic water supply for the State of New Mexico. This initiative was specifically mentioned earlier this week by the Governor during her State of the State Address as the Administration pursues funding for this program. Parallel with pursuing legislative funding, NMED will be accepting technical information from stakeholders.
What does this mean? NMED would like stakeholders to submit responses to the RFI. If you or your company has input on the sourcing, treatment, delivery, storage, and industrial uses of brackish water and produced water, this information will be helpful and informative. NMED will also be holding stakeholder meetings to answer questions about the RFI. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this program.
Deadlines:
- The RFI will close on March 31, 2024. In the RFI, NMED also published the following anticipated schedule:
-
- January 19, 2024 – RFI opens.
- February 15, 2024 – New Mexico Legislative Session ends.
- February 27, 2024 – Virtual Meeting 1, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Mountain Time

- Fall 2024 – Request for Proposal and project-specific concept papers closes.
